4th Grade (Level B) Writing:

Contents: Teacher’s Manual, a Set of Transparencies, Student Book.
Benefits: Knowing how to answer TAKS questions will be easier if students
are acquainted with the format of the tests. Teacher modeling of writing
strategies and consistent practice will help students connect their own
experiences to their writing.
Description: The Written Composition section focuses on purpose or
combination of purposes for writing; composition assessment on a 4-point scale,
using focused holistic scoring with the rubric to include organization, focus
and coherence, idea development, voice, and conventions of English that are
grade level appropriate; and evaluation on rule-based and sight words that are
within the writing vocabulary of fourth-grade students. The Multiple-Choice
section (Revising and Editing) promotes peer and self edit composition-editing
practice on a consistent basis and student knowledge of TAKS test terminology.
It includes passages for the purpose of revising and editing and allows for
multiple objectives testing items in a passage rather than testing only one
objective per passage.
